Faith Under Pressure? Just Trust…

We often face circumstances that don’t make sense – situations that challenge both our faith and our rationality.  The longer I live, the more often I find myself confronted with these types of things.  One might think that this would leave me discouraged and broken, but I find something altogether different.  When dealing with doubts and fears I find myself more determined to trust in God’s character – His sovereignty and His love! Rather than panic or give in to despair, I find myself even more resolved to reflect on these few things that I do know:

  • God is good
  • God is wise
  • God is loving
  • God is present

Tragedies and adversities might seem like odd times to reflect on the goodness, wisdom, love, and presence of God, but I have found that such occasions are perfect opportunities to remember what I do know.  When troubled by uncertainty don’t forget what you know!   The peace of God and the joy that follows are our rewards.  I understand James words:

“Consider it a sheer gift, friends, when tests and challenges come at you from all sides. You know that under pressure, your faith-life is forced into the open and shows its true colors. So don’t try to get out of anything prematurely. Let it do its work so you become mature and well-developed, not deficient in any way.”
James 1:2-4 (The Message)
